Book tip/boktips…

Found a tip on a book that seemed to be interesting in a Readers’ mail on Alice Miller-web.

There stands for instance:

“It turns out that babies require sensitive and consistent care not just for their happiness, but for the healthy development of the most basic brain chemistry. Damage to this development -- and to the stress response in particular -- can rob a child of the resources to concentrate, to organize and articulate feelings, to control impulses, to appreciate other perspectives and to recognize the consequences of behavior.”

And:

“... alone or in combination, neglect, abandonment, abuse, drug use and malnutrition wreak havoc on a child. The authors do a good job of explaining how these miseries can translate into neurological injury, and how injury could be linked to eventual violence.”

This is what Jonathan H. Pincus also writes in his book “Base Instincts- What Makes Killers Kill?” ISBN 0-393-32323-4. See the article "Frenzy" on Alice Miller web about this book.

And what results does less severe damage cause? In more ordinary people? Emotional neglect and ignorance? Abandonment even if it doesn’t mean that the parent/caregiver physically abandons the baby/child? Disrespect for the child’s feelings, reactions, needs etc.?

Is it possible to heal? Which effects are possible to heal - and how?

Hittade tips på en bok som verkar i ett läsarbrev på Alice Millers webb.

Där står bland annat (i min snabba översättning):

”Det visar sig att babyer behöver känslig och konsekvent skötsel inte bara för deras lycka, utan också för att den mest grundläggande hjärnkemin ska utvecklas på ett hälsosamt sätt. Skador på denna utveckling – och särskilt på stressresponsen – kan beröva barnet förmågan att kunna koncentrera sig, att kunna organisera och uttrycka känslor, att kontrollera impulser, att uppskatta/inse andra människors perspektiv och att upptäcka konsekvenserna av ett beteende.”

Och

”…ensamt eller i kombination kan försummelse, övergivande, övergrepp/kränkningar, drogmissbruk/bruk och undernäring orsaka total ödeläggelse hos barnet. Författarna gör ett gott arbete när de förklarar hur denna misär kan översättas i neurologiska skador och hur skada kan kopplas till eventuellt våld.”

Detta skriver neurologen Jonathan H. Pincus också om i sin bok ”Base Instinct”.

Och vad orsakar mindre svåra skador i ”normala” människor?

Yes, they had fresh potatoes and strawberries (though not Swedish) at the grocery store!!! So now I have eaten! The matie herring with a cooked carrot, a half tomato, a boiled egg, two spoons with Turkish yoghurt (instead of "gräddfil"), the fresh potatoes...
